About Mount Sterling

This ten acre camp is situated at the southwest end of Cache Valley at an elevation of about 5,200 feet. It is adjacent to the long abandoned Sardine Highway which originally provided access to the Valley from Brigham City. The site affords a beautiful view of Cache Valley to the north and northeast directions. The terrain is hilly with oak brush providing the major foliage. A pavilion (no kitchen) will seat about 100 people, and a nearby irrigated grassy area (about one acre)is an ideal site for tent camping. Some recreational vehicles also can be accomodated in the unpaved parking lot. Water for both irrigation and culinary uses is supplied from the Sardine Spring which is reported to be the first water source used by the early pioneer settlers as they entered the Valley. There are water faucets in the grassy camping area and at the pavilion. The small restroom is connected to a drain field but is not adequate for large groups. An on-site electric generator can be used to provide lights for the pavilion as needed. Mount Sterling is in a beautiful setting and is an ideal camp for small stake and ward groups. The camp is fairly secure because it is behind a gate that is normally locked. However, priesthood surveillance is recommended at all times.
